Community health centers play a critical role in helping community members learn about and access various health related services throughout their lifespan. We know that 7 in 10 of us will need long-term care at some point in our lives. For some, this will be temporary after an accident or illness. For others, the need will strike later in life. In both cases, this is known as long-term care.

The WA Cares Fund is Washington state's long-term care insurance program and is the first of its kind in the country. Washington workers who qualify will be able to access their benefits and start receiving long-term services and supports from a registered WA Cares provider. The state legislature has made improvements to the program including, expanding coverage to include workers who move out of state, creating a pathway for near-retirees, and creating a supplemental private long-term care insurance market.

CHC staff are invited to join the WA Cares Fund Outreach and Language Access Lead Sebastian Cahe for a presentation about how the WA Cares Fund can help community members you serve and how you can inform them about the program.

Participants will understand:

• The impacts of family caregiving responsibilities on workers and how the WA Cares Fund can help working families.
• The basic structure of the WA Cares Fund program, including who contributes to the program, how to meet contribution requirements, and what types of benefits will be available.
• How Washington workers can apply for their WA Cares benefit and access information in a format that is familiar to them.
  

Audience will be limited to staff from CHCs:

All CHC staff are encouraged to attend to learn about the WA Cares Fund! This information may be particularly relevant to staff who work directly with community members, including community health workers, outreach and clinical.
